  1. By request i am writing up a quick faq on how to turn books into 
  2. electronic form.
  3.  
  4. You will need sever forms of software to make this easy,  painless, 
  5. and the files small.
  6.  
  7. 1. Adobe Acrobat 4.0 full
  8. 2. Adobe Photoshop 5.5 full
  9. 3. MS Word
  10.  
  11. I assume you have a scanner. If you don't just buy one.
  12.  
  13. Now this is what you do.
  14.  
  15. 1. Scan each page of the book including the front of the book all 
  16. the way to the end of the book and the back. at 8 1/2 by 11 @ 100% - 
  17. 200%. Do  this from adobe photoshop and save the files for web. Use 
  18. the jpg format not the gif format. Make sure your blur is at 0 and 
  19. your at maximum for the files.

  21. name all the files in order of the pages. This is the longest part of 
  22. the process and depending on the speed of your scanner should take 
  23. about 1 - 4 hours of work.

  25. 2. Organize all the jpg's in order in MS Word. Then save the document 
  26. as the <Bookname>.doc.
  27.  
  28. 3. Make sure that adobe acrobat full is installed, and that adobe 
  29. distiller is configured. this is your printer. You print the documents 
  30. to pdf. (if you don't know how to do this go to explorer and check 
  31. your printers. then click on the adobe one and add a new port, this 
  32. is a directory where you will be printing to) Once all that is 
  33. configured you print your newly made document to pdf.
